Welcome to the Montreal Hitmen web site.

The 2009 season is now here.  The Burlington Early Bird has come and gone and the team has launched 2009 with a bang

The boys opened up the Early Bird by winning both of their round robin games (Montreal Blue Bayou and S.O. Cobras) and setting up an "A" qualifier with the Burlington Bengals.  The team came out somewhat flat on Saturday and the Bengals finally made them pay for it.  A 21-12 loss left the team competing for the BB title.  A well played game over the surprising Ottawa Firm (33-7) put them up against the Ottawa Tailgators in the semi-finals.  The lads stepped up to the occasion with a great 24-0 victory.  The finals were against the Toronto Dirty Birdz.  Down 14-7 at  half-time the team regrouped and took home the title with a great 27-14 victory.  The TSN Turning Point might have been JP's lumberjack impersonation where he knocked down a tree resulting in one of the easiest INTs in Carmine's career...the final nail was definitely the back to back sacks that left them facing "3rd and I can't throw it that far!"

Chateauguay opened up in typical miserable weather.  This event is well known for field destruction.  Arm issues led to the squad going with Benny and Chris at the pivot position.  This decision was made easier with Carmine's history of less than stellar performances in the rain.  The opening game had Benny square off against an ever-improving Oakley squad.  Little mistakes here and there (as well as 1 MAJOR goof) led to a 21-6 victory for Oakley.  The boys rebounded in the afternoon against the Phoenix as veteran QB Chris Moufrage was supported by a relentless defence who gave the Phoenix no room.  A nice 26-0 victory in the pouring rain set up a "AA" qualifier on Sunday.  The morning game had the team come out very flat against an improved Magic squad.  A couple of key additions have changed the outlook of that squad and they made most of the difference on this day.  A 27-13 loss had the team looking to regroup in hunt of an "A" division title.  Up next were the host team...the Bigg Dogg.  Once again the team stepped up to the challenge and completely stymied 3 different QBs.  Karl DeNie was on fire and had 5 sacks in the game.  The offence finally showed signs of life and moved the ball quite well but simply did not finish drives.  A 19-0 victory had the boys in the title game.  Facing them were Rosemont rivals, the Papillons Vert.  The defence continued their solid performance with several 3rd down knockdowns and the offence finished drives in the end zone.  When the dust settled the boys had a 45-22 victory and a second title under their belt for the 2009 season.

Rosemont opened up with a rainy morning game against the Wolfpack.  At this event last year the WP upset the Hitmen in round robin play and the team was determined that this would not happen again.  Despite missing some key players the team won convincingly 26-6.  The second game of the day was against a short-handed Bocci Storm squad.  As the team has a habit of doing they played down to their level and were down 14-0 very quickly.  JP came off the bench to add some much needed aggressiveness to the squad and they rallied back to win 36-20.  A Sunday morning game against the Magic started poorly as the team was down 20-0 at the half.  A good second half left the team in better spirits chasing an "A" title as they dropped down after the 20-14 loss.  Next up were the Maroons who still have their vaunted defence but have lost some swagger with their QB change.  A good 27-19 victory set up a rematch with the Wolfpack in the finals.  The game was one to forget as every little mistake was maximized upon by the Wolfpack...

Boucherville has come and gone and the team learned an old lesson about playing "smart" football.  An incredible amount of mental errors led to the team finishing with their worst Quebec result in some time.  A 2-0 Saturday was followed by a 27-20 loss to the Maroons on Sunday morning.  The team seemed to deflate after the loss and bowed out in the "A" division semi-finals.

Ottawa was a wet, wet weekend.  Starting the day in Tier 1 had the team facing the Hamilton Dolphins and (eventual AA Champion) Toronto Trojans.  Some signs of life here and there were continually interrupted by key mental mistakes and timely drops.  The "A" division qualifier in the afternoon had the team display it's talent in the first 25 minutes and then revert to it's recent form of mental and physical mistakes to allow the Kingston Vikings to battle back.  A key 4th quarter drive let the team put the game out of reach and finish the day with a victory.  Sunday morning had the Tailgators as the opponents.  The game started well and then the mental and physical mistakes began to take their toll starting with a mental gaffe on punt coverage resulting in a 70 yard return for a score.  Things continued in this manner until the end...

Unionville represented the team's best result in their history.  Starting the weekend in Tier 1 with the Mississauga Rebels and Burlinton Spartans as their round robin opponents, a second place finish was the aiming point.  Things began well with a 26-22 victory over the Rebels.  Dominic Raymond's return led to openings for those around him and major scores.  Realizing that a loss against the Spartans (last year's NAtional Champions) would result in an afternoon affair with the current #1 Piranhas the mindset of the team went 180 degrees.  The defence held tight with a completely luidicrous INT by Ted Walker and the offence played "ball-control" as if attempting to re-write the definition.  A tight fought 15-13 victory was the story of the beer tent that afternoon.  THis led to a AA qualifier against the Scarborough Raiders.  While a completed Hail Mary at the end of the first half kept the score interesting the Hitmen were in control throughout this 35-22 victory.  As a result the team found themselves in a AA semi-final matchup with the Toronto Trojans.  Unfortunately the squad returned to some of their undisciplined ways and fell 26-8.

The 2009 Provincial Championships are now done and over.  The boys had two good days wrapped around a forgettable Saturday.  An opening evening win against the Bigg Dogg had the team in good shape heading into Saturday's action.  An opening kickoff turnover against the Magic set the tone for the day.  2 more quick turnovers and the squad was down 3-0 before finishing their morning coffee.  The afternoon game against the Maroons became an early playoff as the team needed to win in order to move on to the AA semi-finals.  A good match was decided by a costly INT in the red zone in the last 3 minutes and the boys were now having to regroup to win the "A" title.  A Sunday morning matchup with Doomsday got everyone just a tad more energised and the squad romped with a fairly easy victory 34-6.  The championship game was against the Oakley Fat Cats, who are quickly becoming heated rivals.  While tempers flared on a few plays the Fat Cats waived the towel when the score reached 24-0 to start the 4th.  A very solid Sunday (60-6) after the disappointment of Saturday, showed the team's resiliency...

The Nationals (and tournament season) are now in the books.  The goal this year was to win the "A" championship and the team exceeded expectations...

The opening game was against the Burlington Spartans.  After an upset victory in Unionville this game was expected to be quite difficult.  The team moved the ball well but stalled 4 times inside the 15 yard line coming away with no points.  A 31-0 loss should not be surprising after those issues.  Next up were the Landell Lighting now led by Rodney Moors (5 AA titles with the Canadians) and the defence came through in a huge fashion.  An 18-12 victory had the team thinking 2nd place in the pool.  Sunday morning saw the boys lining up with the Winnipeg Avengers on a frosty field (even they thought it was cold!).  Once again the defence came through with the decisive play being a defensive TD by C. Pollice.  Although the team would tie for first in their pool with a 2-1 record they would fall to 3rd spot because of +/-.  This set them up against the #2 team in pool C, the Hamilton Dolphins.  The offence jumped out strong and built a 13-0 lead but the Dolphins would fight back.  A questionable decision led to a late INT which the Dolphins then converted into 6 pts.  The defence was unable to prevent the 2 point conversion and a tie game was the result with just under 3 minutes to play.  The lads took the ensuing kick off and marched off the necessary yardage to kick for the winning "rouge" on the final play.  21-20 and off to the AA q-finals!  Unfortunately at this point the team ran out of gas/energy/karma and simply did not have what was required to run with the Toronto Trojans...

A 5th place finish at the National Championships definitely exceeded expectations for the team coming into 2009 and sets the bar for 2010.
